Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski confirmed their separation in a joint statement, closing out a relationship that started in 2015 on an off-Broadway production, turned into a relationship the following March, and moved quickly from there: engaged within six months, eloped in March 2017, and a first child not long after. Nine years and two kids later, the couple says the split has been in place for a while and is the right call for their family going forward.
The detail that reads as the real tell in hindsight arrived a month earlier and had nothing to do with a statement. In August, Seyfried listed her Hollywood Hills house — a property she'd owned since 2011, bought for $1.85 million and now on the market for $3.2 million — for sale. It's a compact place by celebrity real estate standards: 2,700 square feet, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, plus a pool, spa, and gym, and notably not the home she's been primarily based out of, which is a 1930s farmhouse in New York's Catskills.
Selling a property that predates a marriage, rather than a home the couple built together, doesn't automatically signal anything on its own. But paired with a separation announced a month later, it reads exactly the way these things tend to in retrospect: not as the cause of anything, just as the first visible piece of a decision that had already been made quietly before it became public.
