Global Village started in 1996 as a pop-up fair in a parking lot. Three decades and roughly 100 million total visitors later, it's now pulling in more people per day than Disney's Magic Kingdom — the park most people would reflexively name if asked to guess the world's busiest. Global Village averaged 49,505 visitors a day across its 202 operating days in 2024, edging out Magic Kingdom's 48,732, even though Global Village runs 38% fewer hours and packs in 33% higher hourly attendance to get there.

Part of why it's grown into something this size traces back to a genuinely notable design pedigree: the late Disney executive Eddie Sotto reworked the venue using Epcot as a reference point, and it shows — the current 394.9-acre site reads far closer to a permanent world's-fair-style attraction than the market stalls it started as.

It won't show up on official rankings, though. The Themed Entertainment Association classifies Global Village as a multi-cultural festival and fairground rather than a traditional theme park, pointing to its temporary pavilions and seven-month annual operating season as the reason it sits outside the usual comparison set — a technicality that doesn't change the actual foot traffic, just the category it gets filed under.

The numbers also say something about where Disney has chosen to put its energy. Magic Kingdom's attendance has grown just 7.2% since 2006, while daily ticket prices have gone from $63 to more than $200 over the same stretch — a strategy that leans on spending per guest (up 5% last year) rather than raw visitor count, even as attendance ticked down 1%. Meanwhile, the UAE has been pouring investment into exactly this kind of leisure infrastructure as oil revenue becomes a smaller part of the picture, and Global Village's rise looks less like an anomaly than an early read on where that investment is heading.
