A tenth-anniversary show is usually a victory lap. Feng Chen Wang's, staged in Shanghai this spring, was built instead as a genuine expansion: alongside the established menswear that made her name, the collection introduced her first proper womenswear line, under the theme 'Two as One.'

The London-based, Shanghai-born designer has spent a decade working the same tension from different angles — traditional craft against modern construction, Eastern references against Western tailoring, sportswear ease against sharper deconstructivist shapes. The new womenswear keeps the deconstructivist bones of the men's line but softens them just enough to read as distinct rather than a resized version of the same garment, which is precisely the point: models walked in paired outfits built around similar silhouettes across the two lines, an idea Wang has described as 'imperfect harmony' rather than simple genderlessness.

The show itself extended past the clothes into a full staged environment — five installation pieces built around dance, live spray-painting, kinetic sculpture, and a DJ set, adding up to what she called a 'Feng Chen Wang Universe' rather than a straightforward runway. That instinct to build an atmosphere rather than just present a lineup traces back further than the ten years being celebrated: Wang has pointed to her 2016 graduation collection at London's Royal College of Art, made while her father was seriously ill, as the emotional starting point for a body of work that has always been about holding two opposing things together rather than resolving them.
