Dior's Couture division lost its longtime public relations director on August 17, 2026, when Mathilde Favier died in a car accident in western France at age 57. She was traveling with her partner, film producer Nicolas Altmayer, when their vehicle collided with a truck while overtaking another car on the road. News of her death moved quickly through the fashion world, drawing tributes from the celebrities and colleagues who had worked alongside her for years.
Favier's path to Dior ran through decades of French media and luxury. She began her career in the 1980s at magazines including Glamour and Femina, later moving into fashion communications at Prada before joining Dior in 2011 to lead press and public relations for its couture house. Over fifteen years there, she became known less for any single campaign than for the relationships she built, serving as the primary point of contact for the actresses who became the face of Dior's red carpet moments, among them Natalie Portman, Rihanna and Jennifer Lawrence.
Dior creative director Jonathan Anderson described her as “the very embodiment of elegance and, in many ways, the spirit of Couture itself,” a line that echoed how colleagues across the industry remembered her: as someone who made the machinery of a major luxury house feel personal to the people passing through it.
Favier's affection for her adopted city extended into her own writing. Her 2004 book, Living Beautifully in Paris, gathered the courtyards, bistros and friendships that shaped her life outside the office. In the days after her death, tributes came in from Jisoo, Portman, Lawrence and Rihanna, each marking the loss of someone who had guided them through some of the most visible moments of their careers.
